Shifting International Dynamics: The Hazards of PMC Warfare
Set between Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and Tom Clancy's EndWar from the popular Ghost series, Tom Clancy's HAWX takes place in a world where warfare is constantly evolving--a time when state-sponsored militaries lack the funds and personnel to modernize their forces and elite, private mercenary groups have grown in size and scope to pick up the slack.

The Reykjavik Accords of 2012 defined the role of these PMCs in combat, and they made it fully legal for these groups to purchase from the international armaments market, leading to a shift in the structure of global military power. Over time, you'll do battle on the front lines of both sides as this shift reveals high-stakes arms threats and a terrifying glimpse of the future.

HAWX: The Elite, High Altitude Warfare eXperimental Squadron
You'll begin the game as former U.S. Air Force Pilot David Crinshaw, assigned to provide air support for the well-known Ghost Recon team. You and your fellow HAWX pilots are some of the most highly-trained specialists in the world. Based out of Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, you're tasked with everything from testing secret and experimental aircraft weapon systems to carrying out combat and recon missions, training other top pilots, and attempting to capture enemy technologies.

With the rise of the PMCs, your unique skills in higher demand than ever before. And with 49 playable planes available in game, plus additional planes available to some pilots through pre-order bonuses or VIP memberships, there's no shortage of sleek, fast, deadly aircraft at your disposal as you put your skills to use.

An Iconic, Enhanced Reality System to Help You Deliver Results
When you're in the midst of a firefight, E.R.S. in-game technology can help anyone survive, if you know how to take advantage of it. Featuring incoming missile detection, an anti-crash system, damage assessment, a tactical map, and weapons trajectory control, E.R.S. even allows you to issue orders to your squadron and other units, much like the iconic Cross-Com system in other Tom Clancy games. When you're getting started, you can ease into the rigors of flight and gain confidence by using a special assistance mode that offers support through the E.R.S. This mode can be switched off at any time, deactivating safety features and allowing you to perform advanced maneuvers.

Cutting-Edge Realism and Innovative Multi-Player Modes
Whether you're in a classic F15 Fighting Falcon or a new-generation Gripen, the controls and flight graphics are designed to keep you on your toes. And the game's photo-realistic environments have been created using detailed satellite data. When you pull back on the throttle to jet all over the world, you'll experience this authentic world from a variety of viewpoints.

Game play options aren't limited either, with the campaign featuring solo and multiplayer options with seamless jump in/jump out functionality, and a PVP mode where players can challenge each other to dog-fights for bragging rights, earning experience points and cash, and unlocking additional weapons.

4 out of 5 stars First Hawx   August 30, 2010
Hawx2
I like all Tom Clancy's games, and this one in particular is okay, I think it takes to long to level up or reach a high rank. I don't like the fact that I can't play all three difficulties in campaign using the same call name. But with that in mind I still would recommend this game as an alternative to Vegas 2, which in my opinion is the best game ever after splinter cell.

4 out of 5 stars Good game!   August 17, 2010

This is a pretty good game and worth the price. My son and I have played and it gets pretty hard in some levels but overall is fun and realistic. It is more difficult to play when the flight assist is off and the views make it hard to line up a target but still enjoy playing. Overall a game worth having. Also recommend blazing angels 2.

3 out of 5 stars Strictly an arcade game!   August 13, 2010
Nom De Plume (West Coast Junkie)
This is strictly an arcade game. You can't land or takeoff, there seems to be two speeds, fast and marginally fast. You can't slow down and all the planes seem to have the same general dynamics, some difference, but very small.

Some plane speeds inaccurate. The A-10 can hit over 800 mph. Even an afterburner kicks in, but I don't think it has an afterburner. Some of the planes can go over 1000mph, but it doesn't look like that when you drop at tree top level. More like helicopter speed. Very disappointing.

Targets markers appear on the HUD and then through your cockpit. Not very realistic. Dropped bombs explode on the ground target before you even pass over them, in fact you can see them in front of your cockpit. I guess they wanted you to see what you hit for fun.

Very limited outside views of plane. Only top, bottom, front and back and no in betweens! Not very cool. When doing high speed G manuevers no blackouts or redouts appear. Like I said just an arcade game.

Sometimes I think even A-10 Cuba with all it's cartoon views was a lot more fun. You could bomb things that moved unrelated to your target, and you could see all kinds of outside views of what happened and see the manuevers of the PLANE in various positions. Really cool. You could watch the enemy take off and you could even land on their airbases, streets (and actually drive your plane around) or shoot the planes while still on the ground.

For game play you have to play an enormous amount of the same scenarios, (of which there is many) to get to different levels. After you completed all levels, you have to play them again to get to higher levels with different or "unlocked" weapons and planes. I still have not unlocked many levels yet.

For a more realistic fighter SIM Flanker 2.0 was more "pilot" realistic and almost like the A-10 Cuba. It is REALLY COOL to take off (or land) the plane and take a quick "realtime" outside view of it taking off or landing. Too bad HAWX chose the kids route of an arcade game. Otherwise this would be "it".

PRO: realistic bomb and fire effects. Very nice scenery, the best of I have seen. Very good imagery and very realistic "cloud" views, and a great asortment of planes, good sound effects.

CONS: just an arcade game, target markers appear in cockpit, very limited outside views of both in and out of the cockpit, not realistic speeds, no ability to land or takeoff, no interaction or view only of cockpit instruments, must be in combat zone or game gets terminated, joystick controls still too finicky with recommended joystick.

5 out of 5 stars Flight Stick makes it great   August 13, 2010
Sean D. Green
Ace Combat 6 got me back into flight games. Being able to use the Ace Combat 6 Flight Controllers make this game awsome. The graphics are great, the mission briefings do tend to get long from time to time, but they never make the game unbearable. I highly reccomend getting this game. Can't wait to see what H.A.W.X. 2 has to offer.

4 out of 5 stars Lots of replay-ability   August 11, 2010
BigGameHunter88
This game is a very good choice for anyone who likes flying games and enjoys doing some fancy looking moves. For me personally this game has quite a bit replayability! And most the times I'm into First and Third Person Shooters.
