Generally good game, sloppy AI August 30, 2010 Michael Teter (Winter Park, CO USA) This game has good polish and is well designed for the console. At the same time, it stays reasonably true to the Civilization line.
It's great fun at first, but as you get into the harder levels you discover how weak the AI is. Computer opponents can be very tough on King or higher level, but they aren't smart. They play brute force, and I suspect they "cheat" in terms of their production and gold income rates. I say this because they send endless waves of units to attack you, usually foolishly (to their demise); but they send so many, and for so long, that it's difficult to believe they have the same development rules you (the player) do.
Also, the computer civs constantly demand technology, great people, or gold from you. If you deny them, they begin their endless attacks. If you give them what they want, that only provides temporary peace of 4-6 turns (which fly by very quickly). Interestingly though, after playing dozens of games I have only once seen evidence of one AI civ fighting another AI civ. The point is, they seem to behave differently toward the human player than they do to each other.
In summary, it's an otherwise great game that's diminished in fun because of low-budget AI.
good game July 26, 2010 kyro The game was fun but when i was just getting in to it. It was ending Thats the only thing that i thing is worng with the game.
My Favorite DS Game July 12, 2010 Andy G. (Newark, DE, United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my favorite game for the Nintendo DS of the six or seven that I own. It's quick, easy to understand, takes a little bit of strategy, and has some variety so that every game is not the same (although it is repetitious).
Each civilization has differences, so you'll want to try them all. There are four different ways to win the game, and of course, you'll want to try them all.
I also own the PS3 version, but all the extra animation and graphics on that version really don't add anything to the game-play, and only slow it down.
When my baby was only a few months old, I would have to sit with him to get him to sleep. This game was perfect for that because, unlike action games, it's turn-based and I could put it down to tend to him and then come right back without messing up my game.
True, the graphics are nothing special, but the map is clear, the icons are clear, and they don't get in the way. Truthfully, I play it with the sound off (even when I'm not sitting with the baby), so I can't comment on the sounds (assuming it makes them).
It has several difficulty levels so you can have a mindless, easy game or a challenge. There are also special scenarios or down-loadable games to try.
I'm a 38 year old gamer from the Atari 2600 days, and I like it!
They don't let you play long enough June 17, 2010 C. Lohr (PA) This game has the potential for a lot of fun except for the fact that after a set amount of time the game ends no matter where your at in it. I really wish there was a way to play the game for as long as I want with out have to start over again. I have only played once or twice because of this and I feel let down.
Good game June 1, 2010 Bryan N. Kilmer It's a little bit of a slower paced game, but it requires a decent amount of strategy to win in any number of ways. It takes a lot of time and patience, but a worthwhile game if you prefer the base building sort of games.
