Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is a fighting game merging the worlds and characters of the Mortal Kombat video game universe and that of DC comics. View larger. | New Klose Kombat mechanic. View larger. | Story The story of how the heroes and villains of Mortal Kombat and the DC universe could find themselves not only existing on the same plain, but battling each other revolves around coincidental victories in the respective realms by Raiden and Superman. In Raiden's case it was a victory over Shao Kahn, while Superman bested Darkseid. These occurred at the exact same time and involved inter-dimensional elements, which somehow merged their two enemies into one being, Dark Kahn, while allowing the characters of the two universes to interact. In this merging the powers of the heroes and villains are scrambled as well, making some stronger than they ever were, and leaving others vulnerable for the first time in their lives, allowing each to battle on more or less equal footing. And battle they do without realizing that the uncontrollable rage that they feel for each other is actually the work of Dark Khan. Gameplay Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe being a fighter, gameplay consists of one-on-one battles, both in local play and online, in which players can choose a character from either side who will face off against a counterpart from the other. Each character has unique attacks and special finishing moves, and fighting arenas vary depending on whether your character comes from the Mortal Kombat or DC universe. Keeping with the reputation for brutality in the Mortal Kombat franchise, characters from this side will have access to fatalities, while the historically less overly violent DC characters will execute "heroic brutalities," which are end moves where the opponent while beaten, is not killed. The game also features new gameplay mechanics such as: Freefall Kombat, in which players can engage in extended combat while in midair; Klose Kombat, during which the play angle moves to a close-up view of the action; The Test Your Might mini-game where you smash your opponent through walls; and Rage Mode, which increases the power of a character's attack by 50% and provides protection against being stunned by an opponent. Playable Characters Playable characters in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe consist of some of the most popular heroes and villains from both universes, with most being available from the beginning of the game and some unlockable throughout. Scorpion vs. The Batman... September 7, 2010 Robert D. Rush Jr. (Pennsyltucky) Outside of the fundamental approach to the casual 3D fighting style of Mortal Kombat there were several unique qualities added into the mix that brought some sparkle to the platform. One such mark of interest was the fact that you can ram opponents through obstacles and battle mash your buttons in a struggle to reduce or reverse damages. The game definitely has its moments where the intelligence of the game developers surfaces and it isn't too shabby.
Essentially, I am a fan of Batman, Mortal Kombat (primarily the character Scorpion), and fighting games in general. The fact that game comes off a bit dry at times really doesn't hinder me while playing due to the fact that there are hidden characters and the like as incentive to stay somewhat focused. I, however, cannot confirm but, suspect that when the appeal of the hidden "easter-eggs" has worn down the game's re-playability will take a fatal head dive to the mat.
It is fun for the sake of having a Mortal Kombat cross-over especially considering that the D.C. character line-up: The Flash, the Joker, Batman, Cat-woman; etc. are all well done, all faithfully reproduced, and in strong character. The MK characters that you would demand be present are all there with the same being so for the D.C. Universe line-up.
The game has dropped dramatically in price, covers a niche pretty well, has strong Mortal Kombat fighting mechanics and no chump character line-ups. So, if you like fighters, have a few bucks burning a hole in your pocket, and enjoy twisted cross-over style games then this title will probably satisfy your urge. For the money I shelled out for the game, getting it brand new, and the details I explained above I have to rate this title pretty well.
good bad mortal kombat game August 19, 2010 Jonathan Hafetz this lacks the blood depth and challenge and pure rated r nenss of the preivous ones while its better the the last couple your better of wating for number 9
poor game August 12, 2010 Hussain Ali Abu Saud (land of the dead) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
In fact, MORTAL KOMBAT 1 was successful because it was a new idea about finishing and fighting style is different from the others also a way of photography in the play was different and new idea
Then came the MORTAL KOMBAT 2 added that more movements and achieved a great success
Then after that MORTAL KOMBAT 3 began to come down up to this part because they did not try to add some new style than ever before.
Therefore, under the way the game is boring compared with STREET FIGHTER
I think Part IX will achieve success well than the others except MORTAL KOMBAT 1.
Better than expected July 31, 2010 DJ Media Monster Zero-X (Detroit, MI USA) Gameplay is strong, graphics are great, match-ups work - and believe it or not, it's probably better that it was DC and not Marvel. Marvel would have been too easy. The game could use a bit more speed, and button-mashers are sometimes over-rewarded, but all-in-all this is a really fun game. Also, on the brutal violence scale, MK/DC has been nicely modified away from the gruesome-ness of many of the other MK games ... refreshing, and more tolerable for kids.
Its alright July 30, 2010 J. Rodr (Mexico) The characters look awesome, but the gameplay is very... heavy, if that makes sense. The characters move real slow, and the overall feeling is that it is tiresome to look at it. I haven't finished the story mode and i dont plan on finish it any time soon.
I can say that my friends that are into Mortal Kombat kinda like this game. I mean they DO play it sometimes.
